A Norton Park teacher shows off an example of how her students learn everywhere

This is the season when many reflect on the reasons why they are thankful. There is no doubt that we are thankful for our teachers and the education they make possible for Cobb students.

We invited our teachers to submit photos of Cobb students “Learning Everywhere.” The photos definitely helped show why we are “Thankful for Education.”

Our social media community picked the top photos, and thanks to a generous donation from Kroger, 18 Cobb teachers have an extra reason to be thankful this week - $250 Kroger gift cards.

We are thankful for our teachers, but what makes our teachers thankful?

“I’m thankful for the students in the Pope Marching Band. Their professional musicianship, resilience, passion, and strength has been exemplary as we have navigated unprecedented challenges this year. These students are my superheroes, and I’m incredibly proud and thankful for all they continue to sacrifice for the Pope Band program,” praised Mathew Bo Sodders, Pope High School’s director of bands and one of the “Thankful for Education” contest winners.

Deana Martin is also thankful for her students.

“I am so thankful for my wonderful class of in-person and online learners. They are the real heroes! My students are so creative and flexible. They are eager to learn every day,” said the Norton Park Elementary School teacher, who also was one of the contest winners.

Lewis Elementary School’s Kim Pair pointed to her special needs pre-k students as her reason to give thanks.

“Even in a pandemic, our PreK students have continued to amaze me. Whether we've learned virtually or face to face, they have been excited to learn each day. They are true inspirations and definitely give me hope for the future. I am one truly blessed and thankful teacher,” Ms. Pair added.

Hollydale Elementary School teachers are thankful to give back to others. They kept that theme alive when they decided to show their appreciation for the school’s cafeteria workers by splitting their $250 gift card among the employees who keep Cobb kids fed every day.

Kemp Elementary School is also passing along their gift card to families in need this holiday season. That is another example of the giving nature of Cobb teachers.
