Powder Springs Athletes Sweep AOW Awards

Cobb Schools' Athlete of the Week program is a weekly recognition of a male and a female student-athlete that perform at high levels in their sport, in the classroom, and in their school communities. The program is made possible by support from BSN.
This week's winners are from Cobb's two high schools located in Powder Springs, Hillgrove and McEachern:
Addison Black, Softball, Hillgrove
The Lady Hawks are ranked third in Region 3-7A and preparing for postseason action against Grayson next week. Their success in the state tournament will depend on consistent offense like they've been getting all year from outfielder Addison Black. She recently went 6 for 10 at the plate, with one double and 5 RBIs. Her on base percentage was .583.
"Addison is a great teammate," said Hillgrove Athletic Director Jonathan Brown. "She is a young lady that has an excellent work ethic not only on the field but in the classroom where she has over a 4.0 GPA."
"She can be found in the dugout with a smile on her face and chanting loud and proud for her fellow Lady Hawks. This is a well-deserved honor for a young lady that takes pride in softball and giving it her all when she steps on the field," concluded AD Brown.

Lance Watkins, Football, McEachern
Lance helped his team win a hard-fought region battle over Harrison last Friday with 2 tackles, 3 tackles for loss, and 2 assists. He is a senior defensive lineman who came to McEachern as a sophomore.
After an 0-2 start to the season, the Indians have found some balance—and some wins—to get their record back to 4-3 heading into the final three region games of the season, with an important home game against Marietta tonight.
"Lance is a great example of the individuals we want to represent the 'M' at McEachern," said head coach Franklin Stephens. "He's a do right student-athlete that sets the example for others, on and off the field. He's dependable and consistent, each and every day you know exactly what you are going to get with him."
"He leads by example and vocal when he needs to be," continued Coach Stephens. "He's free flowing and has the ability to fit in with any group of people. He's also a great student that does very well in the classroom. Lance is a very intelligent individual with a lot of savvy."

Congratulations Addison and Lance for being selected as Athletes of the Week! You're both a great example of the kind of student-athletes that the Cobb Athletic Department is looking to highlight. Great jobs, Hillgrove and McEachern!
