Five Teasley Essayists Win $100 Prize from Delta Community Credit Union

In March, Delta Community Credit Union sponsors an essay contest for third, fourth, and fifth graders in the 16 counties the Credit Union serves. Five students from Teasley Elementary claimed a $100 prize for having their essay chosen as a winner in this year's contest.
To enter, students were required to submit an essay of 75 words or less describing what they would save for if saving money was their superpower. Delta Community representatives Jack Feltman and William Wesley visited the school earlier this month to congratulate the five young authors and award them their prizes.
"We have two third-graders, two fourth-graders, and a fifth-grader chosen as winners from Teasley," Mr. Feltman said. "Delta Community loves doing activities and contests like these to engage and support our communities and teach young people about money and saving. In the summers, we also host Cool Kids Camps with half-day training and fun for the kids."
The essay contest was an excellent opportunity for the students to dream about what they would do with a lot of money. The five winners from Teasley all said they would want to help others in one way or another.
Third-grader Emily Vita imagined herself as a "superhero of saving money" and helping people everywhere. Fellow third-grade student Olivia Ford said she would "help people who didn't have enough money." Fourth-grader Sia Sahay wrote that she would "help the poor and homeless" if saving money was her superpower. Davis Jones dreamed big and said he would "build a machine that would make world peace possible so everyone would be nice to each other." The upperclassman of the group—fifth-grader Oliver Alexander—said he would use his money superpower to make sure that every student had the materials they needed for school.
"We are so proud of these essay contest winners," Mr. Wesley said before handing out the certificates. "You all chose to spend money on others and not on yourselves. That was so encouraging to hear and read."
Well done, junior essayists! You now have 100 more dollars to begin developing your saving superpower and making the world a better place. Great job, Teasley ES teachers and staff, for preparing these young writers and giving them the opportunity to participate in the contest. And thank you for supporting Cobb Schools, Delta Community Credit Union!
