Buc Actress and Trojan Swimmer Win AOW

December 2, 2025 — From the stage lights at Allatoona to the starting blocks at Lassiter, two standout students are making their mark.
Each week, with the support of BSN Sports, Cobb Athletics celebrates student-athletes who inspire and excel in their sports, academics, and communities. This week's Athlete of the Week (AOW) honors go to Piper Cathey from Allatoona High School and Ethan Jones from Lassiter High School for their achievements in the classroom and in their respective sports.
Piper is an actress for the Buccaneers in One Act Play, and Ethan is a senior captain for the Trojan Swim team.
Piper Cathey, One Act, Allatoona
Always positive and uplifting to those around her, Piper was named Best Actress at the One Act State Championship. The Allatoona junior is also involved in Chorus and serves on the Buc Athletic Leadership Council. She is a natural leader and sets the example for the underclassmen on the team. Piper has been acting since she was nine.
"Pip will be on Saturday Night Live one day, I just know it!" exclaimed her proud coach, Traci Woody-Kemp. "She helps make our program a success by remaining positive and lifting others in times of despair. It's not a show unless you hear Pip say, 'Lock-in guys! I love you!'"
Her coach’s praise didn’t stop there.
"She is an integral part of our program and the glue that holds us together. She is always encouraging her castmates to strive for excellence, and they admire, listen to, and learn from her every day," Coach Woody-Kemp said proudly.

Ethan Jones, Swimming, Lassiter
Ethan is a senior captain for Trojan Swim and Dive and did an incredible job recently in an away meet at the West Gwinnett Aquatic Center, where Lassiter swam against two larger Class 6A teams—North Gwinnett and West Forsyth. He was part of two winning relays—200 Medley and 400 Freestyle—and finished in first place in the 50 and 100 Freestyle.
Ethan is dedicated to his sport and swims year-round for the Stingrays Swimming Club team. He is also a high performer in the classroom and well-liked by his teammates, classmates, and teachers. He brings excitement to the team by leading team cheers and maintaining a high positive energy level.
"Ethan shows great leadership in and out of the water. He is always looking for ways to pump up his teammates," said Lassiter Head Coach Brittany Hughes.
The Lassiter senior will help lead the way this season.
"He is extremely dedicated to the sport and improving his times. He will be an integral part of our team this season as the boys look forward to a strong showing in our County and State meets," concluded Coach Hughes about her team's Athlete of the Week.

Congratulations, Piper and Ethan! You are both excellent examples of what it takes to be successful in the classroom and in extracurricular activities. Great job supporting these Athletes of the Week, Allatoona and Lassiter!
