September 18, 2026 — Cobb Schools is proud to recognize the employees who do a lot of work that many may not know takes place behind the scenes. Classified employees support school staff throughout the year, helping keep operations running smoothly and create the best possible learning environment for students.
Classified Employees of the Year from across Cobb Schools were recognized during a celebratory luncheon at the Cobb Energy Center, where Superintendent Chris Ragsdale, along with board members, congratulated the 2026-27 honorees.
"I genuinely appreciate the people I work with. I love the students, and I'm there for them and to help make a difference," said Raizel Bennett, Osborne High School's PPL clerk.
Meet Cobb’s Top Classified Employees of the Year
The celebration reached another high point with the surprise announcement of Cobb’s top Classified Employees of the Year at each level—Elementary, Middle, High School, and Central Office. Selected from the honorees representing schools and departments across the District,
four stand-out employees earned Cobb’s highest classified employee recognition for their respective levels.
- Central Office — Shala Rathke, Clerk, ESOL
- Elementary School — Shelly Prestridge, Paraprofessional, Addison Elementary
- Middle School — Tamesha Mackey, Paraprofessional, Garrett Middle
- High School — Tedra Curtis, Head Custodian, Kennesaw Mountain High
Rathke was also named the overall Rise Award winner for Cobb Schools. The RISE Award, which stands for Recognizing Inspiring School Employees, is a national program administered by the U.S. Department of Education that honors classified school employees for excellence and exemplary service in supporting students, schools, and communities.
"I wouldn't trade my job for anything in the world. I love my job, and it's an honor to be recognized," said Carla Martinez, clerk at Cooper Middle School.
