July 23, 2026 — In a historic visit, the Cobb County School District welcomed the President of the United States on Wednesday, providing an opportunity to showcase the outstanding students, dedicated educators, and commitment to excellence that have made Cobb one of the nation's premier public school districts. 

With President Donald Trump's visit to Wheeler High School, three of the last four Presidents have visited Cobb Schools. In 2003, President George W. Bush visited Harrison High School, and in 2008, the district hosted a campaign event for then-Senator Barack Obama at McEachern High School. These visits have allowed generations of Cobb families to hear directly from the White House in their own backyard, showcasing the quality of education and resources Cobb Schools provide to make these events possible. 

"This week, the Cobb County School District was honored by a visit from the President of the United States. Our safety, transportation, operations, maintenance, food and nutrition, and countless other team members did an outstanding job under very short notice," said Superintendent Chris Ragsdale. 

While the visit brought more than 6,000 people and national attention to one of our schools, it also highlighted the work taking place every day across all Cobb Schools. From rigorous academics and innovative career pathways to award-winning arts programs and a steadfast commitment to student safety, Cobb continues to prepare more than 105,000 students for success in college, careers, military service, and life. 

"It's cool for students because it gives them a chance to see their government in person and also maybe get an interest in politics and serving in the government," said Board Chair Randy Scamihorn. 

Cobb Students Shine on a National Stage 

One of the most memorable aspects of the day was the opportunity for Cobb students to represent their school and district on a national stage. Students welcomed guests, demonstrated leadership, and showcased the pride and excellence that define Cobb Schools. 

Members of Wheeler's JROTC presented the colors and supported the event's ceremonial aspects, while student-athletes, student leaders, performing groups, and other student organizations helped create a warm and memorable welcome for visitors. 

"It's the most amazing thing I've ever done in my life. I feel like our school district is doing a great thing, and it's helping kids envision that they can do something great," said Wheeler JROTC student Marquitus. 

Throughout the day, students had the opportunity to interact with distinguished guests and represent the values of hard work, leadership, service, and excellence that are fostered throughout the Cobb County School District. 

"It's so cool. My friends are jealous because they don't get to experience stuff like this," said Allatoona junior Bayley.

Allatoona graduate, Mia DeMartino sang the National Anthem to start the event. Also in attendance were Sprayberry and Allatoona students, as well as a group of Harrison High School students proudly wearing their school colors. 

"It's an incredible opportunity and definitely not an opportunity we thought that we would be able to get. It's just incredible that we live in a country where people like us can get an opportunity to be here," said Braelyn, a senior at Allatoona. 

A District Recognized for Excellence 

Hosting a presidential visit reflects the outstanding reputation Cobb Schools has earned through decades of academic achievement, innovation, and community partnership. Cobb Schools is Georgia's second-largest school district and one of the largest in the nation. The district is home to 22 National Blue Ribbon Schools and 56 Georgia Schools of Excellence, and has a long tradition of topping its peers across the Atlanta metro and Georgia on state assessments. 

"When we moved back to the Atlanta area, we looked at the schools and researched, and we decided to move to Cobb County, mostly because of the schools, actually," said Wheeler parent Jeff Telford.

Cobb students consistently outperform their peers statewide and nationally on college entrance exams, while graduates earn millions of dollars in scholarships each year. 

"It's special here for a multitude of reasons. One reason is that academically we are superior, from a quality-of-life perspective, we're second to none," said Board Member John Cristadoro.

Safe Schools, Strong Communities 

A successful event of this scale reflects the strong partnerships across the Cobb community. District staff worked alongside local, state, and federal partners to ensure a safe and welcoming environment for students, employees, guests, and visitors. 

"The head of the U.S. Secret Service detail stated we hosted a presidential visit and that this was the best event in the last couple of years. This was a clear reminder of the quality and commitment of the people who protect our students and staff every day and will benefit Wheeler’s campus for this entire school year," said Superintendent Chris Ragsdale.

All 16 of Cobb's Vapor Wake K-9's were in use during the President's visit. These dogs, which are used daily in Cobb schools, can detect threats well before they pose a danger to students and teachers. 

This showed the advanced security capabilities of Cobb Schools and its police department. When the nation’s highest level of security was required, Cobb was prepared to contribute in a major way.

"I pulled up and recognized one of our officers here, and I knew we were in good hands," said Board Member Tre' Hutchins. 

That spirit of collaboration mirrors the district's everyday commitment to maintaining safe, supportive schools where students can focus on learning and achievement.

All of this excitement came less than two weeks before students were scheduled to return to the classroom, setting a high bar for the year ahead. 

As summer comes to an end, Cobb Schools looks forward to carrying that momentum into the first day of school and welcoming students and families back.

“Our schools have proven you don't have to choose between the best quality and the lowest cost when it comes to educating our kids. Every decision we make, we make so every child has the same opportunity, for generations to come," said Board Chair Randy Scamihorn.
