The Cobb County School District offers transportation to eligible students enrolled in a District school. Eligibility for transportation is determined by criteria outlined in Administrative Rule ED-R. Students and their parents/guardians are reminded that riding the bus is an offered service that may be withdrawn under certain circumstances.

Students Eligible For Transportation:

Bus Transportation will be provided for elementary students who live more than one half (1/2) mile from the school in their attendance area. Transportation shall not be provided for elementary students who reside one half (1/2) mile or less from school.

Bus transportation shall be provided for middle and high school students who live more than one (1) mile from the school in their attendance area. Transportation shall not be provided for middle and high school students who reside within or less than one (1) mile from the school.

Walking distance for students to bus stop should not exceed one-quarter (1/4) mile for elementary students and one-half (1/2) mile for middle and high school students; this may be facilitated by easement walkway.

Bus stops shall be located no less than one tenth (1/10) of a mile apart, except where hazardous conditions warrant shortening distances between stops.

This policy provides the Transportation Department with the framework they need to develop bus routes and stops. Pupil safety criteria must be considered in route and bus stop development. The above stated minimum distances shall be measured by, and at the discretion of, the CCSD Transportation Department based on the following: travel distance made along the commonly traveled roads from the nearest school entrance to the driveway curb at the student's residence or primary entrance curb of multi-family residential complexes.
