What are the minimum requirements to be a substitute teacher with Cobb County School District?

The minimum requirement is a High School Diploma or a GED, Associate or Bachelor’s Degree, and please note that certification is preferred.

What is the application/employment process?

All applications are electronically reviewed to determine if the applicants meet the minimum requirements to be a substitute teacher. Two references are required and are completed electronically by the applicant. Applicants must provide the current or most recent supervisor as a reference with a valid email address. A complete work history is also required to be considered for any position.

What are the next steps after applying?

Once all references are returned, applications are eligible for review. If selected, the applicant will receive and invitation by mail to attend an orientation.

What are the training requirements?

All selected applicants will be required to attend an orientation. Employment paperwork is provided. All chosen applicants are required to pass a criminal background check as required by state law. Selected applicants must registered to be fingerprinted at a Gemalto location, which will be provided in employment paperwork. The current fee is $51.50, which is subject to change. This fee is the responsibility of the applicant and is non-refundable. Instructions are included with initial email.

What are the monthly work requirements?

The minimum requirement is the equivalent of one full day (8 hours) per calendar month. The maximum allowed is the equivalent of 15 full working days per month.

When are substitute teachers paid?

Substitutes are paid monthly on the last workday of each month, except November, December and January. Please refer to substitute manual provided electronically when hired.

If I am a former CCSD employee or substitute, is it necessary to apply again?

If you formerly worked as a substitute/employee of Cobb County, and would like to return to work as a substitute, you must submit a new application. Updated fingerprinting will also be required.

Are there restrictions on where I can work?

Substitutes are not permitted to work in a school where their spouse or close family member is in administration.

What is the difference between a substitute and a supply teacher?

A Substitute Teacher is a day-to-day, temporary employee. A Supply Teacher is a long-term substitute hired at individual locations by the principal for one position. Applicants must apply for each specific supply position.

What is the status of my application?

To check the status of your application, log in to your account then go to the "Application Status" tab in Applicant Tracking Enterprise . Also, when the status of your application changes, you will be notified via email.

I applied for a job and haven't heard anything. Who should I contact?

Unfortunately, due to the large volume of applications we receive, we are unable to respond personally to all applicants. Should your qualification match our staffing needs, we will contact you directly.

Must I apply every year to be a substitute teacher?

As long as you have been an active sub and worked your minimum requirements, you will not have to reapply.
