The Inside Scoop: Testing Season Strategies

In this week’s edition of The Inside Scoop, host David Owen is joined by middle school counseling consultant Barbra Truluck to discuss how to best prepare students for testing season as the school year ends.

April and May are known as “testing season” for many families, as Truluck and counselors across Cobb aim to make the process as stress-free as possible.

Owen and Truluck discuss how, while studying is important, having the right mindset and staying calm are equally critical before a big test. The veteran Cobb Schools counselor also encourages families to view testing as an opportunity for growth, helping students focus on their own progress while building confidence through early preparation and practice.

In this podcast, listeners will hear helpful tips on preparing students for testing and finding the right balance between studying and relaxing to build a confident mindset.

While it can also be a stressful time for parents, Truluck said showing stress and anxiety over testing can negatively affect a student’s study and preparation habits.

From breaking material into smaller sections to taking breaks and planning ahead, the podcast highlights small changes that can make test preparation easier.
