June 18, 2025—Two departments in Cobb's Financial Services Division were recognized at the June meeting by the Board of Education for recent awards and achievements.
The Financial Planning & Analysis Department received both the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for fiscal year 2025 and the Association of School Business Officials International (ASBO International) Meritorious Budget Award for fiscal year 2025. These awards represent significant achievements in the field of professional financial planning and budget. They highlight professional skills in developing an effective budget presentation, compliance with clear budget presentation guidelines, commitment to the community through a reader-friendly budget document, and adherence to nationally recognized budget development and budget presentation standards.
This award is the highest form of recognition in governmental finance and budgeting. The Cobb Schools team has received budget awards every year since 2004. Considering that there are over 13,000 public school districts in the United States, this recognition is another example of the District’s commitment to sound financial planning and procedures.
In addition, the Accounting Department received both the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for the fiscal year ended 2024 and the Association of School Business Officials International (ASBO International) Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting for the fiscal year ended 2024.
Many school district finance operations don’t even attempt to attain this award. Cobb School District’s Finance Department has maintained a professional culture and environment of achievement for many years. In fact, the Cobb Finance Department has received these awards every year since 1984.
