A North Cobb Football Love Story

September 19, 2025—If you’ve ever attended a North Cobb High School football game, chances are you’ve felt the unwavering presence and team spirit of Jimi and Regina Richards—the greatest supporters the Warriors have ever known. Their love story begins with and is inseparable from North Cobb Football, spanning more than half a century of cheers, victories, and unforgettable Friday nights.
The Significance of September 15
It all began on September 15, 1971. Jimi, then a student at Sprayberry High School, asked Regina on a date. She agreed, but with one condition: he’d have to join her at the North Cobb football game that Friday, where she performed with the Drill Team. That first date marked the start of a lifelong tradition—every Friday night became synonymous with North Cobb Football. Their love grew and a year later—on September 15, 1972, during their senior year—Jimi proposed at that season's first region game against North Springs. She said "yes", and they were celebrated amidst the roar of the crowd. A year after that, on September 15, 1973, the couple was wed, sealing their bond during football season.
54 Seasons, 514 (and counting) Games Together
For 54 consecutive years, Jimi and Regina have held their “Friday night date” at North Cobb games, no matter where the Warriors played. Regina’s attendance record tallies more than 530 games, with 514 shared together—an unmatched testament to loyalty. Their landmark 50th wedding anniversary in 2023 was spent, fittingly, supporting the Warriors at Warner Robins, celebrating North Cobb’s first-ever victory on that field.
"I have been blessed to have a wife who loves football just as much as I do," Jimi said. "However, what I really love about North Cobb is that the coaches and staff have always put what they do off the field and in the classroom as their top priority. Off the field, in the classrooms, helping others in the North Cobb community, these are necessary for life after football. It really shows the commitment that our players and coaches have in the program."
Jimi’s own commitment to North Cobb goes beyond being a fan in the stands. After 44 years in trucking, including three years driving the North Cobb bus and 3.2 million miles of accident-free service, he founded the “North Cobb Warrior Nation” Facebook group in 2011, building a digital home for distant fans and alumni to share in the team’s achievements.
Their son, Robbie, played his part in the family tradition as a member of the Warrior Marching Band and a 1995 North Cobb graduate. He went on to join the UGA Red Coat Marching Band and now teaches AP Government at Commerce High School, where he also coaches their award-winning Academic Team.
The Richards' unsurpassed devotion to North Cobb was recently recognized with the couple's induction into the school's Athletic Hall of Fame on September 12, 2025. Standing on the same field where they had spent so much time rooting for the home team, the longtime fans received cheers and applause as they were announced as members of the Class of 2025 Hall of Fame. Although it didn't happen on September 15, the Richards didn't mind.
"It means the world to us that our names are added to a group of Warriors that we have known over the decades," Jimi said with a smile. "We are glad to live long enough to be part of that history."
Jimi and Regina’s passion for North Cobb Football is legendary—a beacon for generations of players, students, and families. Their steadfast support, love, and community spirit have shaped the Warrior legacy.
"Their commitment to our program drives me as a coach and our players to be better every day," said Warrior Head Coach Shane Queen. "Jimi and Regina are a great example of what makes high school football in Georgia so special every Friday night! They are a part of The Warrior Nation Family and will leave a legacy that will never be duplicated."
"They are truly great people," agreed North Cobb AD Matt Williams. "They support everything that goes on at North Cobb. You will always see their smiling faces at sporting events. We are blessed to have their support."
The happy Warrior couple just celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary and has their sights set on attending 600 games. The Richards family serves as a reminder that champions aren’t only found on the playing field. Here’s to Jimi and Regina Richards—the greatest supporters of North Cobb Football. Go Warriors!
