Board Meeting Highlights

During the March Board of Education meeting, Board members learned about an academic study that credited the Cobb Teaching and Learning System (CTLS) for likely playing a role in Cobb’s impressive academic recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic while providing the support and engagement Cobb educators and families need.

The in-depth study, which is part of a national working paper series provided by the Annenberg Institute at Brown University, praised CTLS for advancing educator collaboration, incorporating transformative technology, and focusing on real-time data utilization.

“The Brown study highlighted what we have known for a long time. The ‘by Cobb, for Cobb’ approach used to create CTLS, has made our educators more successful, our students more successful, and enabled our District to navigate the challenges of the pandemic more successfully than other districts,” said Cobb Schools Board Chair Brad Wheeler.

Beyond the support that CTLS provides educators in the classroom, as highlighted by the Brown study, Superintendent Chris Ragsdale discussed how the District supports teachers’ professional development and career advancement. Following Board approval in February, Cobb Schools is providing educators the opportunity to pursue advanced degrees with no tuition cost through Georgia’s BEST. Some selected Cobb educators will begin pursuing their advanced degrees this summer.

During other Board business, the Board voted to approve the construction of a multipurpose facility that will benefit all Cobb Schools students and families.

Earlier this month, the Cobb Schools community celebrated Exceptional Children’s Week. The monthly Board meeting included a video that spotlighted some of the ways the District and school community support students with special needs.
