Cobb's Online Students Participate in Unique In-Person Learning Experience

January 16, 2026 — For the more than 400 students who are a part of the Cobb Online Learning Academy, the flexibility of online classes provides families with the flexibility that they need.
Even though classes are fully online, students get the opportunity to meet in person at events like COLA's First Friday events, which take place at Cobb Horizon High School.
January's First Friday event, in partnership with Cobb EMC, featured the theme "Electric Avenue," as students and families learned about the dangers of electricity, how to stay safe in the event of a storm or a downed power line, and what not to do around electrical equipment.
"It's really important for us to create opportunities for students to engage in a face-to-face environment to socialize and also for us to connect with families and give them the resources to support learning at home," said COLA Principal Dr. Jeanne Walker.

Along with Cobb EMC teaching students about electricity, several classrooms were set up for students to stop by and learn about topics such as cameras, filmmaking, SAT prep, planning for the future, and the latest developments in technology.
For February 6, the theme is "Feel Good February," which will include a presentation by William Snead, Director of Health & Wellness for CCSD, dental screening by Help A Child Smile Georgia, and Lions Club Vision Screening.
The final First Friday on March 6 will feature Income Tax services provided by Osborne High School students, as well as a financial seminar presented by LGE Community Credit Union.
Both of the remaining First Friday events will be held at Cobb Horizon High School from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
