Safety is always a primary concern on any parent's mind. Lieutenant Mike Wilson and Officer Pete Saxton from the Cobb Schools Police Department join the podcast to discuss safety measures implemented by the District to protect students and staff.

Cobb's District Police are experienced and well-trained. They also work with select external agencies that help prepare schools for emergencies and provide assistance when needed.

The District has instituted the use of special badges for school lockdowns and for requesting assistance. Preparedness is key in an emergency; regular drills help to give familiarity and confidence to school staff and students.

Vaping and opioids are becoming more of a problem nationwide, and Cobb's law enforcement collaborates with local police departments to mitigate the influence of these substances within the school community. They also help to teach about the legal repercussions and health risks associated with drug use among students.

Additionally, Cobb Schools Police are involved with issues like bullying, gangs, and students' mental health concerns. Strategies involve intervention units, encouraging officer-student relationships, and the implementation of the Safe Schools alert tip line for anonymous reporting.
