“Concerned Cops” is a mentoring program for high school and middle school students that is intended to provide a better understanding of interpersonal relations, especially between themselves and authority figures (i.e. school teachers, administrators, police officers, etc.). Students are presented the opportunity, through role playing and discussion, to experience how student behavior may be perceived from the point of view of an authority figure. Conversely, students also can openly discuss their perceptions of these interactions which allows for a greater appreciation of the differing viewpoints of all involved. Additionally, students are taught coping skills to help them constructively deal with perceptions of biased or disrespectful behavior.
