The Inside Scoop: Keeping Cobb on Top with Grants

With almost 110,000 students, more than 17,000 employees, and a budget of over $1 Billion, Cobb Schools is one of the largest school districts in the country. Most of that budget is spent on maintaining and funding the vast infrastructure required to teach the District's nearly 110,000 students. Cobb's finance department was recently awarded a third AAA credit rating, making it the only school district in the entire country to hold all three AAA designations.
Even with such diligent oversight of the money coming in and going out from the District, many opportunities for teachers and students must be funded with grants from outside the organization. Cobb already allots more money for direct use in the classrooms than neighboring Districts, and grants help to put even more money into the classrooms for teaching and learning.
Cindy Nichols, Assistant Director of Research and Grants, joins David Owen on today's podcast. Grants can come in all shapes and sizes and from many different sources. There are federal, state, and local government grants, as well as from business and private sources. All of these can significantly enhance the District's ability to ensure students get the best education possible at every Cobb school.
